POSITION TITLE: Jordan Business Development Consultant

REPORTS TO: Jordan Country Director

The Business Development Consultant will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities in Jordan and the larger Middle East and North Africa region across IREX’s technical areas (civil society, media, education, leadership and youth development), developing plans to seize funding and partnership opportunities, assisting in pre-solicitation/pre-proposal and proposal activities, and otherwise contributing to IREX’s external representation, donors’ and partners’ relations. The Business Development Consultant will work closely with IREX teams in Jordan and other MENA countries as well as in Washington DC. This is a short-term consultancy, with an anticipated level of effort of 10-15 days per month, over one year, starting immediately. This position is open to nationals and residents of Jordan.


Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying, tracking, and cultivating funding opportunities, through intelligence collection, partner or customer relations, and personal initiative
  • Collecting and qualifying leads for emerging business opportunities
  • Conducting outreach activities with donors and partners
  • Drafting and assisting in the execution of plans to capture identified opportunities, including positioning and communications events
  • Identifying, cultivating, and concluding partnerships for business opportunities
  • Representing IREX’s business development interests with relevant stakeholders, beneficiaries, and donors
  • Contributing to the expansion of IREX’s local and regional consultant roster, including gathering proposed personnel documentation
  • Drafting concepts for funding, pre-solicitation documents, and proposals
  • Conducting research and preparing briefs
  • Analyzing funding trends and helping prepare IREX for new trends and opportunities


  • BA degree in international development or related technical discipline relevant to IREX’s global programs is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of work in the development sector, with international organizations and/or donor agencies, on projects relevant to IREX’s technical areas, of which at least 3 years in middle and/or senior management positions
  • Proven experience with successful proposal and new business development with diverse donors, including pre-solicitation preparation
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and coordinate activities of multiple partners
  • Excellent technical skills in English writing, editing, formatting, research, negotiation, and verbal communications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally, for a few days but sometimes with little advance notice
