Tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide inputs and contributions to the evaluation design and methodology

  • The evaluation team members should expect to work from home and to travel to a selection of countries as part of this assignment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in international relations, social sciences, economics, agricultural sciences or any other discipline relevant to the work of the Organization;
  • At least 12 years of experience, of which at least 7 in the formulation of partnership strategies, or development of partnerships between the civil society organizations and the UN system organizations, including, but not limited to:
    • Experience in working with the civil society organizations and UN organizations in the analysis, planning and management of policies and programmes promoting sustainable development, including experience with multistakeholder platforms and/or networks in institutional spaces;
    • Experience in engaging civil society organizations in policy dialogue on issues related to food and nutrition security;
    • Experience working in national governments on the promotion and inclusion of civil society organizations in public policies;
    • Experience in promoting and implementing partnership development activities in development programmes at global, regional or national levels;
    • Engaging civil society organizations in norms and standards setting;
    • Harnessing civil society organizations’ knowledge, technology and research capacities;
    • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian.

Key Functions

  • Researches and analyses technical-related issues on the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; assists in the review of relevant documents and reports;
  • Produces a variety of technical information, data, statistics and documents as well as technical input for reports and web pages;
  • Provides technical support/analysis to various assessments, studies and projects and provides technical backstopping to field projects;
  • Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes and databases;
  • Oversees the updating of databases and web pages;
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams, and/or leads working groups/teams, collaborates with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices;

Specific Functions

  • Supports the development, implementation and evaluation on technical issues of the agriculture related components of the project; directs review of relevant documents and reports; identifies priorities, liaises with relevant parties; identifies and initiates follow-up actions;
  • Contributes to the  preparation of various technical written outputs, e.g. background papers, analysis, technical guidelines, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications;
  • Conducts field missions, including provision of guidance to technical consultants, government officials and other parties;
  • Provides advice to develop policies and strategies as well as national protocols and guidelines for projects with specific domains related to FAO’s work;
  • Consolidates the inputs of different national and international consultants to refine the project approach;
  • Suggests specific activities and initiatives that will strengthen project delivery, efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability;
  • Represents the agriculture related aspects of the project at provincial and district level;
  • Conducts a knowledge management exercise on both successful models from international experiences and latest market trends, with the aim of deriving lessons and guidance to refine the project approach;

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in political sciences, agricultural economics, development economics, rural sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture (including livestock, forestry and fisheries), or a related field;
  • Five years of relevant experience in technical cooperation-related activities, policy advice and analysis relating to food and nutrition security, agriculture and rural development, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes;
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

Key Functions

  • Plans, manages, or leads highly specialized or multi-disciplinary teams, leads, coordinates, and/or participates on Organization-wide, cross-Departmental committees, project teams, and working groups, and/or provides technical leadership/secretariat services on technical networks and/or international technical policy and standard setting bodies.

Research Assistant/Research Analyst

Job Summary:

The Development Strategy and Governance Division of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks qualified candidates to fill ten  Research Assistants/Research Analysts openings.  The successful candidates will work on several research projects, involving household survey data collection and analysis. This is a one-year renewable appointment based in Yangon, Myanmar, with frequent travel and extended stays in different parts of rural Myanmar. Interested applicants must be authorized to work in Myanmar.

Essential Duties:

Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collection, cleaning and analysis of primary and secondary data
  • Assist with field implementation of survey activities (scoping, pretesting, training survey enumerators, etc.)

Senior Research Assistant/Research Analyst

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks to hire qualified candidate to serve as Research Analyst / Senior Research Assistant in its Development Strategy and Governance Division (DSGD). This is a two-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment. The position will be based in in the institute’s South Asia office in New Delhi, with possible travel overseas. Final position title will be based on experience and academic qualifications. The successful candidate will support senior research staff in DSGD with reviews, data management, and quantitative analysis with survey data from both Asian and African countries.  Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in India.
