Job Summary

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Research Analyst I within the Director General’s Office. This is a one-year, exempt, renewable appointment based in Washington D.C. The Research Analyst will work with senior research staff, assisting with literature reviews, drafting of reports, performing tasks associated with data collection, data maintenance & analysis, implementation of field surveys and other research support activities related to the work of the Division.  This position is located at IFPRI’s headquarters in IFPRI but may involve travel to countries where IFPRI carries out its research.

Essential Duties:

Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in preparation of discussion papers, donor reports and other manuscripts for publication;
  • Assist in developing data documentation manuals or other learning materials, as needed;
  • Assist in handling household survey data (including survey design, sampling & questionnaire);
  • Assist with field survey activities (training survey enumerators, field supervision of surveys);
  • Assist with development of research instruments and analytical tools;
  • Assist, as needed, in survey data processing, cleaning;
  • Assist with data analysis, statistical analysis, econometric analysis;
  • Assisting in conducting literature reviews & synthesis;
  • Assist in preparing large datasets for public access;
  • Assist with responses for internal/external data requests;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or International Development or related field plus two years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in a related field;
  • Ability to perform quantitative data analysis;
  • Excellent drafting skills and analytical mind;
  • Excellent econometric skills on cross-section and panel data analysis;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth statistical analysis and report the results;
  • Experienced in conducting literature reviews of academic publications, research reports, etc;
  • Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and to work in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task as needed, consistently meet deadlines and manage time well;
  • Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work;
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel;
  • Familiarity with popular software packages & Internet-based systems;
  • Familiarity with Africa, Asia, and/or Latin America.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skilled in programming in R, Matlab, STATA, SPSS, and in managing household and large databases;
  • Strong background in microeconomics, optimization methods, and industrial organization;
  • Ability to moderate e-learning sessions;
  • Familiarity with popular software packages, social media, & Internet-based systems;
  • Ability to use and maintain knowledge bases in social network platforms.

Description

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks to hire a qualified candidate to serve as Research Analyst / Senior Research Assistant in its Development Strategy and Governance Division (DSGD). This is a two-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment. The position will be based in in the institute’s South Asia office in New Delhi, with possible travel overseas. Final position title will be based on experience and academic qualifications. The successful candidate will support senior research staff in DSGD with reviews, data management, and quantitative analysis with survey data from both Asian and African countries.  Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in India.

Essential Duties:

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The organization, cleaning, manipulation and analysis of large household data sets.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of quantitative surveys in developing countries, including questionnaire development and enumerators’ training.
  • Collect and review relevant policy documents.
  • Assistance in the preparation of project reports, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed academic publications.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to developing countries of Asia and Africa
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Master’s degree in economics, agricultural economics, public policies, or equivalent in other social sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with large quantitative data sets (data cleaning, management, analysis, etc.).
  • Advanced statistical programming skills using Stata, SPSS, and other packages.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, especially for Research Analyst position.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with data entry and Computer Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) software packages (CSPro, Surveybe, Epi Info, etc).
  • Knowledge of multilevel regression methods.
  • Demonstrated writing skills on economic policy issues.
  • Experience in survey design, questionnaire design, and conducting and supervising household surveys in developing countries.
  • Experiences of working in developing countries.

Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Research Assistant / Research Analyst I for a one-year, exempt, renewable appointment in its Development Strategies and Governance Division (DSG). The RA will work with and assist senior researchers in analysis of various data sets, including household and market surveys and secondary data on prices, trade and macro-economic variables. This position is based in Washington, D.C. Final title and grade will be determined by education and experience.

Essential Duties:

The selected candidate will:

  • Assist with data collection, compiling, and data cleaning of primary and secondary data from various sources.
  • Assist with the development and documentation of constructed datasets.
  • Assist with economic modelling and statistical analysis.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Assist with the drafting of research papers and project reports.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

  • At the Research Assistant level, Bachelor’s degree in economics, agricultural economics, development studies, public policy, public administration or a relevant discipline.
    • At the Research Analyst I level, Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience conducting and writing up literature reviews for academic publications.
  • Experience working in an international setting abroad doing research, capacity building or other development related activities.
  • Experience with data analysis using statistical software packages (e.g., Stata).
  • Experience in quantitative research methods and data processing, analysis, and management, including manipulation of large datasets.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and produce completed products on time.
  • Knowledge of issues related to poverty, economic transformation, agricultural development and governance in Africa or South Asia.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary and cross-cultural teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics.
  • Experience with simulation modeling software (e.g. GAMS).

Physical Demand & Work environment:
